Overview

This document applies to the manufacture of sensors and transmitters for overfill protection devices and components for overfill protection devices in stationary and fixed containers with liquids hazardous to aquatic environment. This document specifies requirements and the relevant test methods for the components of an overfill protection device. For containers for liquid fuels and fuel oils filled from road tankers, DIN EN 13616-1 and DIN EN 13616-2 in conjunction with DIN EN 16657 apply. The requirements for electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, functional safety, and for use in potentially explosive atmospheres are not covered by this document. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 104-02-04 AA "Überfüllsicherungen und Füllstandsanzeiger" ("Overfill prevention devices and tank content gauges") at DIN Standards Committee Tank Installations (NATank). The standard differs from the previous version as follows: a) The word "self-contained” has been deleted, as the focus is on the sensor and transmitter with any additional components, which do not, however, have to provide complete overfill protection, namely be self-contained; b) use of uniform formula symbols; c) the "actuator" has been removed from the scope of application, Subclauses 4.1.9 and 5.1.7 have been deleted; d) Subclause 4.1.4 has been divided into Subclauses 4.1.2 and 4.1.3; e) "Requirements for the control device” in Subclause 4.1.6 has been specified in greater detail; f) the marking of the software version in Subclause 4.1.10 has been deleted; g) The subclauses of 4.2 have been combined into one subclause; h) clarification for identical sensors of different designs by means of representative designs in 5.1.1.2; i) visual inspection in Subclause 5.1.1.3 deleted; j) the test of the switching cycles at opposite temperatures has been deleted in Subclauses 5.1.2.1 and 5.1.2.2 and the acceptance conditions have been specified in greater detail, and it has been clarified that the sensor and transmitter can also be tested one after the other; k) Subclauses 5.1.3 to 5.1.6 have been streamlined by referring to 5.1.2 and additional tests have been specified; l) requirements for testing the signalling device in Subclause 5.1.6 have been simplified; m) document has been editorially revised.
