This document describes the determination of audible noise from high-voltage overhead lines with a nominal voltage greater than or equal to 220 kV. Lines with lower nominal voltages (for example, 110 kV) generally have significantly lower edge field strengths, which are outside the scope of the calculation formulas recommended in this document and do not result in any relevant sound emissions. However, in the case of multiple lines with circuits rated greater than or equal to 220 kV and simultaneously with circuits rated at lower voltages (for example, 110 kV), the effects of the circuits with the lower rated voltage shall be taken into account when calculating the edge field strength of the entire line arrangement. Audible noise emissions from high-voltage overhead lines are taken into account in the calculations as line noise sources. When calculating the level of the length-related sound power of the conductors (usually bundle conductors), the edge field strengths of the relevant conductor arrangement shall first be calculated. The equivalent charge method is recommended in this document for determining the edge field strengths. The recommended calculation method refers to lines with conductors made of stranded wires (round wires, trapezoidal or Z-shaped) made of pure or alloyed aluminum in the outer layer. The use of special conductors or conductor applications may be intended to increase the conductor diameter, particularly with insulating or semiconducting materials on the surface, and to reduce the edge field strength accordingly. The sound emissions of such applications cannot be assessed solely using the calculation methods presented below, but require measurement-based verification. The recommendations for the proper performance of acoustic measurements in the context of determining sound emissions from conductor cables are based, where applicable, on the specifications of the Technical Instructions on Noise Protection (Sixth General Administrative Regulation on the German Federal Immission Control Act - TA Lärm). This applies to installations that are subject to approval or not subject to approval and are subject to the requirements of Part II of the German Federal Immission Control Act [BImSchG] and thus also to high-voltage overhead lines. Discharge noises at individual points of disturbance, such as fitting parts of insulator chains on overhead line masts or in a substation or switchgear, cannot be determined using the methods presented below and are not covered by this document. The description of sound transmission to the immission location is not covered by this document. Reference is made to DIN ISO 9613-2:1999-10 for this purpose.
