DIN 18034:2012-09

This standard contains requirements and information for the planning, building and operation of playgrounds and outdoor play areas. It also applies for outdoor play areas which are, in addition to other applications, partially or occasionally suitable for playing. This includes for example spaces in residential environments, child day care centres, sports facilities, outdoor swimming pools, green spaces and school grounds. This standard is not applicable for pedagogically supervised playgrounds. It can be applied analogously, however. The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN 18034:1999-12: a) introduction newly incorporated; b) title and scope expanded to building; c) pedagogically supervised playgrounds deleted from the scope; d) terms and definitions newly formulated; e) user participation in planning incorporated; f) demand for environmental friendliness; g) demand for high play value; h) elements of nature-related play taken into account more thoroughly; i) demand for accessible use extended; j) aspects of preventive health protection considered; k) requirements for accessibility, area sizes as well as safety rendered more precisely; l) when using drinking water, deviations from the German Drinking Water Ordinance shall be clarified with the responsible health authorities; m) reference to the Badegewässerverordnung (German Bathing Water Regulations) incorporated; n) structure completely revised and test editorially modified; o) references to standards supplemented and updated. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 005-01-14 AA "Spielplätze" ("Playgrounds") at DIN.
