This document specifies the required material characteristics for the verification of strength of shafts and axles in accordance with DIN 743-1. Users can make use of their own experience or data for the analysis. This document specifies the strength values for the temperature range - 40 °C ≤ ϑ ≤ 150 °C. For ϑ > 150 °C, the strength values decline by more than 10 %, and temperature-dependent strength values are taken into account. The strength values are valid for the frequency range up to 100 Hz. The fatigue strength values are valid for the maximum number of load cycles NG = 107. No difference is made between rotational bending and flat bending. The fatigue strength values have been given for the more unfavorable rotational bending. This document differs from DIN 743-3:2012-12 as follows: a) Clause 2 "Normative references" has been updated; b) calculation options for the tensile and fatigue limit under reversed stresses using harness values have been supplemented; c) the calculation of material fatigue limit under reversed stress for forgings d > 300 mm has been added; d) material designations have been updated; e) the table of materials has been supplemented, and the strength values have been updated; f) tabular information about material fatigue limit under reversed stress has been removed; the general Equation (1) to Equation (3) apply as before; g) the Bibliography has been supplemented; h) the standard has been editorially revised. National interests during preparation are represented by Working Committee NA 060-34-32 AA "Wellen und Welle-Nabe-Verbindungen" ("Shafts and shaft to collar connections") at the Technical Section Power transmission engineering at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers and users of shafts and shaft-hub-connections and universities contributed to this standard.
This document replaces DIN 743-3 Berichtigung 1:2014-12 , DIN 743-3:2012-12 .
