DIN EN 1870-7:2013-01

This standard contains specifications meeting the essential requirements set out in Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC which apply to machines that are first placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market, in order to facilitate proof of compliance with these requirements. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a "harmonized" standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive ("presumption of conformity"). This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events as listed in clause 4 which are relevant to single blade circular log sawing machines with saw blade diameter ≥ 600 mm and with integrated feed table with manual loading and/or unloading (hereinafter referred to as "machines"), designed to cut solid wood when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer including reasonably foreseeable misuse. This European Standard is not applicable to machines manufactured before the date of its publication as EN. This standard contains the German version of EN 1870-7:2012 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 142 "Woodworking machines - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 1870-7:2010-03 as follows: a) clause 2 "Normative references" has been updated to new editions of the cited standards; b) in 5.2 "Controls" the design requirements for control circuits in certain categories have been replaced by specifications for performance levels; c) new subclause 5.2.1.2 with requirements for the use of protective devices; d) further requirements have been specified in 5.2.3 "Starting", 5.2.4 "Normal stopping" and 5.2.5 "Emergency stop"; e) addition of a description of an impact test method in normative Annex F for guards' materials, unless they are in accordance with the requirements in 5.3.2 "Risk of break-up during operation"; f) new subclause 5.3.3.3 with requirements for the spindle locking device; g) 5.3.4 "Braking" has been completely revised and braking tests have been moved to normative Annex E; h) 5.3.7 "Prevention of access to moving parts" has been completely revised; i) 5.4.3 "Emission of chips and dust" has been revised to include further requirements; j) 5.4.4 "Electricity" has been completely revised; k) 5.4.5 "Ergonomics and handling" has been completely revised; l) 5.4.13 "Isolation" has been revised to include further requirements; m) 5.4.14 "Maintenance" has been revised to include further requirements; n) 6.2 "Warnings and warning devices" has been revised to include further requirements; o) 6.3.2 "Marking of the machine" has been revised to include further requirements; p) 6.4 "Instruction handbook" has been revised to include further requirements; q) informative Annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 98/37/EC has been deleted; r) the former informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC is now Annex ZA; s) the Bibliography has been updated. The national interests during the preparation were represented by Committee NA 060-06-01 AA "Sicherheit" ("Safety") of Technical Section "Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen" ("Woodworking machines") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of single blade log sawing machines with integrated feed table and manual loading and/or unloading, and of the employers' liability insurance associations contributed to this standard.
