Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the new EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This standard specifies safety requirements to be met by the manufacturer for machines and plants used in foundries for the production of castings in disposable models: moulding machinery and plants; coremaking machinery and plants; machinery and plant constructed to condition and/or reclaim foundry sands; knock-out equipment; other directly associated equipment. The foreseeable significant hazards covered include: mechanical hazards, movement of machinery and workpieces, ejection of material, of liquids and gases, inadequacy of the mechanical strength; explosion, fire, exothermic reactions; contact with hot parts, gases and flames; noise and vibration; thermal heat radiation and conduction; harmful by-products, poisoning, pollution of operators' breathing air. This standard contains the German version of EN 710+A1:2010 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 202 "Foundry machinery" of the European Committee of Standardization (CEN). The following changes have been made with respect to DIN EN 710:1998-01: a) A new format, for instance Clause 3. b) The applicable new requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC have been taken into account. c) EN 294, EN 418, EN 563 and EN 954-1 have been replaced by the corresponding EN ISO standards. d) New standards have been taken into account: EN 842, EN 981, EN ISO 7731 and ISO 3864-1. e) The control category according to EN 964-1 has been replaced by the performance level in combination with the control category according to EN ISO 13849-1. f) An informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been added. The national interests during the preparation of this standard are represented by Committee NA 060-04-03 AA "Form- und Kernherstellungsmaschinen" ("Moulding and core making machinery") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Manufacturers' representatives and users of tube forming and rolling mills, as well as representatives of professional and trade associations are involved in the preparation of the standard.
