This International Standard applies to the basic safety and essential performance of screening thermographs intended to be used for the individual non-invasive febrile temperature screening of a human under controlled environmental conditions, hereafter referred to as ME equipment. This document sets laboratory characterization test limits for the screening thermograph. The minimum safety requirements defined in these specific provisions are intended to provide a suitable basis for the operation of devices for screening (serial examination) of people for fever (temperature). The standard differs from DIN EN IEC 80601-2-59 (VDE 0750-2-59):2020-08 as follows: a) updates of the normative references and the bibliography; b) expansion of the applicability to pandemic infectious diseases in general. This document describes devices that use infrared technology to detect the heat emitted from the skin surface of the face. Such devices can be useful at entry and exit points and at building entrances in indoor environments in order to select people with fever from those without fever, thereby helping to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. It may be necessary to proceed with caution when assessing individuals under changing environmental conditions. However, it has been demonstrated that the inner corner of the eye is a stable measurement point because it is supplied by the internal carotid artery.
This document replaces DIN EN IEC 80601-2-59:2020-08; VDE 0750-2-59:2020-08 .
