The presented standard is a basic standard for the planning and development of systems and equipment for the Bundeswehr. They are also recognized by armasuisse. The standard defines the design measures and protective devices to be incorporated in complementation of specifications in the civil standards for lightning protection and protection against lightning electromagnetic impulse (standards of the series DIN EN 62305 (VDE 0185)). In doing so, it shall be assumed that the measures necessary to ensure electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) have already been taken into account. The standard shall assist with realizing the required protective measures resulting from an impact analysis according to VG 95374-2. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 140-00-19 AA "Nuklear-Elektromagnetischer Puls (NEMP) und Blitz" ("Nuclear electromagnetic pulse (NEMP) and lightning protection") of the Electrical Engineering Standards Committee at DIN.
