Sports and recreational facilities can, when situated in an unfavourable position, lead to noise immissions in the neighbouring residential areas that have to be evaluated as harmful environmental influence in accordance with the Federal Immission Protection Act. Therefore, during planning or significant modification of such grounds, a predicture calculation should be performed in order to determine the noise immissions that are to be expected. Where the relevant standard values for the exposure are expected to be exceeded, noise control measures or alternative planning options can then be considered in good time. This guideline presents characteristics of noise-emission values: soccer, hockey, American football, tennis, ice hockey, public ice skating, icestock-sport, icestock-sport in the summer time, skateboard facilities, open-air swimming pools, public swimming pools and adventure pools, athletics events, public soccer grounds, motor sport facilities, beach volleyball, inline skater hockey, street ball, outdoor public address systems, funfairs, public festivals, markets, circuses, theme and amusement parks, club and town houses, stationary waterskiing centres, summer toboggan runs and dog training centres. The illustrated assumptions are thereby designed in modular form. In case of several different noise sources are interacting during operation of facilities for recreational and sporting activities, the total emission of the facility can be arithmetically "composed" of the actual noise of the facility and other noise ratios. These noise-emission values are presented in such a way that they may serve as a data basis for an immission level determination according to the common propagation calculation methods. This Directive is directed at acoustic consultants, designers, operators and authorities who are related to the above-mentioned facilities. The draft of this Directive has been prepared at the Acoustics, Noise Control and Vibration Engineering Standards Committee (NALS) at DIN and VDI by Subcommittee NA 001-01-04-32 UA "Sport- und Freizeitanlagen - ETS 32" ("Facilities for recreational and sporting activities - ETS 32").
