The complexity of REACH requirements poses a major challenge for many aerospace companies. REACH impacts not only internal processes, but also the entire supply chain. This means that airlines, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services need to comply with a variety of authorisation and restriction requirements.
Now that the final registration transition period ended in May 2018, the focus of REACH implementation is shifting towards identifying high-risk uses and suitable risk minimisation measures. The aviation industry in particular uses many substances that are considered hazardous and may be subject to restrictions or authorisation requirements as further regulations are implemented. The challenge lies in recognising possible consequences early on and developing suitable, sustainable solutions.
