This document specifies requirements for the provision of high-quality conference interpreting services by individuals and provides guidance for users of conference interpreting services. This document does not apply to agencies or office communities, for example. For the purposes of this document, conference interpreting includes not only spoken language interpreting, but also sign language interpreting and written interpreting. This document specifies the competencies and qualifications required to practice as a conference interpreter, as well as the professional and ethical framework conditions for conference interpreting. To this end, it describes the activities and tasks of conference interpreters, explains the various modes of interpreting commonly used at conferences, defines the processes underlying the provision of conference interpreting services, and sets out the training and continuing education requirements for this professional field. This is done with a view to the quality of performance and the presentation of core competencies. The responsible committee is NA 105-00-09 AA "Dolmetschdienstleistungen und -technik" ("Interpreting services") at DIN Standards Committee Terminology (NAT).
