This standard is applicable to common stud links of Grade GL-K3 with the nominal sizes 16 to 90, which are used on board of vessels at ambient temperatures ≥ - 20 °C. Modifications with respect to VG 84501:1998-03 have been made, for example, the series of nominal size has been increased to 90 and calculation bases have been added. Within the framework of the revision of the standards on stud link anchor chain cables it has become absolutely necessary to prepare this standard in order to partly replace VG 84501:1998-03. Another important reason is that the stud link anchor chain cables of Grade GL-K2 (VG 84501-1:1989, VG 84501-2:1989 or VG 84501:1998-03) do not correspond to the current state-of-art with regard to size, materials and masses. This standard describes the requirements for common stud links of Grade GL-K3 in tabular form. In Annex A (informative), the calculation bases were given. These calculation bases include the nominal size, diameter (common stud link), pitch, diameter (test calibre) as well as mass determination by calculation.
