This prestandard has been prepared by NA 062-06-32-02 UA "Prüfung von Rapsöl als Kraftstoff für pflanzenöltaugliche Motoren" ("Testing of rapeseed oil as fuel for vegetable oil compatible combustion engines") of the Standardization Committee for petroleum, fuels, lubricants and related products (FAM) of the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP). This prestandard specifies the properties and limit values currently deemed necessary for the use of fuel from vegetable oil in vegetable oil compatible combustion engines, together with the methods to be applied for testing with regard to these properties. This prestandard specifies those characteristics for fuel from vegetable oil which shall be met at minimum for trouble-free use of the fuel in vegetable oil compatible combustion engines. As field experience for long-term and smooth operation using this fuel is not yet regarded as complete and sufficient by all interested parties, this prestandard does not claim to include a complete description of otherwise necessary characteristics. For this reason, only those characteristics are specified which have been recognized as necessary and indispensable in previous technical discussions in order to achieve sufficient quality. This prestandard has been significantly influenced by the vegetable oils dominating the market and used as fuels, such as rapeseed oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil and palm oil. Fuel from vegetable oil according to this prestandard shall be differentiated from biodiesel ("fatty acid methyl esters") according to DIN EN 14214 and fuel from rapeseed oil according to DIN 51605.
