The purpose of that document is to provide guidance for the assessment of noise at work places in order to prevent hearing damages. That document applies to all work places where the danger of hearing damage exsists. It is addressed to all who deal with questions of hearing impairment and hearing damage due to noise. The guidance outlined apply analogously to noise outside the working area, too.

Overview

The purpose of Blatt 2 of the VDI 2058 series of directives is to give guidance on the assessment of noise in the working area with the aim of preventing hearing damages. The standard is applicable to all working areas where the risk of hearing damage is to be assumed. This document is intended for anyone concerned with the prevention of hearing loss and hearing damage caused by noise. It deals in particular with aspects of occupational health and safety. In addition to noise in the audible range, infrasound and ultrasound are also included. The information provided on the assessment of noise also applies correspondingly to noise outside the working area. The committee NA 001-01-02 AA "Geräuschimmission - Grundlagen, Ermittlung, Beurteilung" ("Noise immission - Principles, determination, rating") in NALS at DIN and VDI is responsible for VDI 2058 Part 2. The technical editing has been carried out at Working Group NA 001-01-02-13 "Überarbeitung VDI 2058 Blatt 2" ("Revision of VDI 2058 Blatt 2"), which was set up for this purpose.
