Short description
Fouling is the unwanted deposition of material on heat and/or material transferring surfaces in production plants of the process industry. It leads to increased expenses for equipment and plant engineering as well as to additional operational expenses and thus causes considerable economic as well as ecological damage up to the possible endangerment of persons and the environment. Due to the increased energy requirements, fouling also contributes to global warming. These negative effects of fouling can be avoided if the processes for the formation and prevention of fouling are clarified and targeted countermeasures are taken. The standard provides assistance in preventing fouling throughout the lifecycle of a process plant. This includes specifications for design, operation and maintenance (turnaround) of the plant. In addition, suitable measurement methods for the detection of fouling are described.
