Short description
This standard specifies a method for taking material samples and preparing them for the subsequent analytical detection of asbestos which has been deliberately added to certain technical products (more than 1 % (mass content)) in order to achieve some favourable product properties. In these materials the asbestos minerals chrysotile (white asbestos), crocidolite (blue asbestos) and amosite (brown asbestos) were mainly used. Anthophyllite and very rarely actinolite/tremolite also occur subordinately. There may also be samples with an asbestos mass content of less than 1 %. The detection of such low asbestos contents requires a significantly higher effort. The scope of this standard is limited to the collection and preparation of samples. It does not provide guidance on the systematic inventory of products containing asbestos. Standard VDI 6202 Part 3 is to be used for this purpose.
