Short description

The standard applies to the rough calculation of global GHG emission savings through material efficiency measures in the operational area. It primarily serves to evaluate measures for the purpose of prioritization in the context of funding decisions by state and other funding bodies. It can also be used to subsequently measure the success of implemented material efficiency measures. The target groups of the standard are manufacturing companies, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), funding bodies and authorities as well as consulting organizations. The requirements resulting from this application reference lie in the simplicity of the method so as not to exclude SMEs; comparability of the results to enable fair funding decisions, and restriction of methodological and data-related leeway in order to avoid arbitrary assumptions in the calculations. The standard follows the tables of measures for increasing resource efficiency or conserving resources in products or in the production process in VDI 4800 Part 1.
