Short description

This standard applies to operators of process industry plants and supports compliance with German legal frameworks such as the 12th BImSchV (Major Accidents Ordinance), the Industrial Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV), and the Act on Installations Requiring Monitoring (ÜAnlG). The standard offers a simplified and pragmatic approach to implementing functional safety, differing from Part 1 to Part 4 of the series of standards VDI/VDE 2180 by reducing complexity and avoiding special technical solutions. The methodology relies exclusively on safety functions with safety integrity levels (SIL) 2 or 3 to achieve risk reduction. The approach is suitable especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Once chosen, the standard must be applied in full; partial combinations with other parts of the series are not permitted.
