This document is intended to be used for waste characterization when information is required to fulfill the requirements of the Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC and European Commission Regulation (EU) No 1357/2014 on the classification of waste regarding different hazards. This document can also be used for Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labeling and packaging. This document covers the determination of elements and substances in waste for the purpose of assessing their hazardousness when information on their content is not available. This document (CEN/TS 17943:2023) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 444 "Test methods for the characterization of solid matrices", the secretariat of which is held by NEN (Netherlands). The responsible German standardization committee is Subcommittee NA 119-01-02-02 UA "Chemische und physikalische Verfahren" ("Chemical and physical methods") at DIN Standards Committee Water Practice (NAW).
