This part of IEC 60034 provides a guideline of technical and economical aspects for the application of energy-efficient electric AC motors. It applies to motor manufacturers, OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), end users, regulators, legislators and other interested parties. This document is applicable to all electrical machines covered by IEC 60034-1, IEC 60034-30-1 and IEC TS 60034-30-2. The document highlights the importance of energy efficiency in particular and the significant potential for energy savings associated with the use of electric motors and variable-frequency drives. It also includes detailed information on common misconceptions with regard to electric drives. Among other things, the following limitations apply to the scope of this document: - details regarding the effects of voltage imbalance can be found in IEC 60034-26; - permissible voltage and frequency fluctuations during operation can be found in IEC 60034-1. Typical application examples include, among others, the interpolation of efficiency, applications with the motor operating at full load over extended periods, applications with a quadratic torque-speed characteristic curve, and applications with constant torque characteristic curves (pumps, fans, compressors). The pre-standard also includes an Excel file for calculating losses and efficiency of direct-start induction motors and power drive systems.
This document replaces DIN CLC/TS 60034-31:2011-08; VDE V 0530-31:2011-08 .
