This Technical Specification specifies a conceptual model for domain management which contains terms and definitions, requirements and reference models. The domain is a set of devices, users and/or other elements which share contents. Elements within a domain are permitted to reproduce contents and application rules or to copy and move to other elements within the same domain. In this field of domains, several available systems were recommended, but different vocabulary and models had been specified. This situation causes lack of clarity and misunderstandings in regards to the systems, and impairs collaboration. This specification aims for unification of vocabulary and clarification of such models. All types of digital content in the domain, including broadcast content to be protected, are dealt with in the scope. However, on the other hand, technologies for rights management and for content protection lie outside of the scope. The responsible Committee is K 742 "Audio-, Video- und Multimediasysteme, -geräte und -komponenten" ("Audio, video and multimedia systems, equipment and components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Informational Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
