Overview

This document provides guidelines for laboratory refining of various fibers intended for paper production, including: - harmonization of terms and parameters for simulating industrial refining processes with laboratory refiners; - treatment of pulp samples in (semi-)continuous operation as opposed to batch operation of laboratory refining equipment such as the PFI mill; - evaluation of fibers for paper production, in particular market pulps, under realistic conditions with regard to refining intensity and energy consumption during refining. This document only considers refiners operating at low stock concentration, that is 3 % to 5 %. This document has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 6 "Paper, board and pulps", the secretariat of which is held by SCC (Canada). The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 074-02-01 AA "Chemisch-technologische Prüfverfahren für Papier, Pappe, Faserstoff und Chemiezellstoff" ("Chemical-technological test methods for paper, board, pulps and chemical pulps") at DIN Standards Committee Paper, board and pulps (NPa).
