Overview

This document establishes a uniform object basis for the management of WAN components in energy networks by a so-called network management system (NMS). However, this can also be applied to communication devices in other areas. The basic specification of the object base is made in an ASN.1 notation, detached from available management protocols. Based on the ASN.1 objects, this document defines so-called MIBs (Management Information Base) for the SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) management protocol. On the one hand, this document defines the objects that a device sends to the NMS via notification in order to register with it or, for example, to report alarm states. On the other hand, it defines objects that can be used to read or set the device's parameters and characteristic values. It also defines objects that can be used to initiate and monitor process-related operations such as updating the device firmware. In the area of powerline, namely devices that transmit data via the power grid, this document specifies generally usable objects. It also specifies objects specific to a particular powerline standard, such as IEEE 1901 or G.hn. For mobile devices, this document distinguishes between 3GPP (GSM, LTE, etcetera) and CDMA. This document does not specify any security requirements. Even though this document specifies objects for certificate management using EST, for example, no specifications are made regarding their use. The SNMP version to be used is also not specified. For security requirements, the legal provisions, user specifications, or other relevant sources shall be consulted. This document excludes backbone devices such as radius servers, firewalls, and so on, as these devices can normally be configured and monitored using established methods. This document does not specify any implementation requirements. This document purely describes the formats and, where applicable, the value ranges of the data to be transmitted. However, it does not describe the source or a storage location or how the data is read or used. Processes are also not defined. Only the objects required for this purpose are provided. Typical use cases are the management of WAN components in energy networks.
