About this product

Please note: This publication is only in German.

Structural engineering requires a thorough understanding of how structures behave under dynamic loads. A central topic in structural dynamics is vibration, which must be taken into account in the design, analysis, and evaluation of structural systems. The textbook “Practical Structural Dynamics” presents the fundamentals and application cases of structural dynamics in a technically structured manner. It provides knowledge on vibrations caused by people, machinery, and wind, as well as their effects on structural systems. More than two dozen practical and computational examples demonstrate their application in various fields.

This textbook supports academic study, self-study, and professional practice. It serves as a working basis for evaluating dynamic loads and for planning appropriate measures against unacceptable vibrations.

Spanning nearly 300 pages, “Baudynamik-Praxis” covers key topics in structural dynamics and structural behavior, including:

  • permissible vibration amplitudes
  • mitigation measures
  • calculation examples
  • practical examples

The new edition incorporates the first-generation Eurocodes and has been revised based on new findings, such as those regarding synchronization factors. Additional practical examples broaden the scope of application for the design, calculation, and evaluation of vibrations.

Baudynamik-Praxis: 2nd Edition with Additional Project Examples

The ongoing global trend toward increasingly lighter and slimmer floor and structural systems also presents new challenges for structural design. This makes it all the more important to have a reliable working basis that reflects the current state of the art and standards: regarding permissible vibration amplitudes, calculation and prediction, and the prevention of impermissible vibrations.

The revised and significantly expanded 2nd edition of “Practical Building Dynamics” addresses, in separate chapters, the three main dynamic effects on the serviceability, comfort, and safety of structural systems:

  • Human-Induced Vibrations
Pedestrian bridges, building floors, sports arenas, soccer stadiums, and nightclubs are structures in which human-induced vibrations can become particularly significant. The book examines the specific influencing parameters
  • Machine-Induced Vibrations
Turbines, generators, centrifuges, or printing presses: Machines can generate significant vibrations. The structures in which they are installed must be designed accordingly to prevent damage and hazards.
  • Wind-Induced Vibrations
In the case of wind-induced vibrations, gusts and vortices are particularly significant. They can lead to considerable dynamic stresses, especially in large bridges, high-rise buildings, chimneys, and masts.

In addition to the described effects, the calculation of possible loads, and suitable countermeasures, this reference book contains 12 practical examples and 22 calculation examples. They illustrate, for each type of vibration, which forces are at work and how design and construction can account for dynamic loads.
