About this product

Please note: This publication is only available in German.

Soldering remains one of the fundamental techniques in metalworking. It provides durability, watertightness and conductivity. The diversity of possible applications is also reflected in the relevant standards: In “Schweißtechnik 5” (Welding Technology 5) alone, there are 39 DIN standards and 15 DVS Merkblätter. The documents included cover a range of topics, from terminology and procedural principles through aspects such as manufacturing processes, additives, personnel and qualifications, right through to testing and labelling.

DIN and DVS are jointly publishing this collection of documents to provide professionals with a concise and comprehensive reference guide that brings together many of the specifications and information on brazing and soft soldering that are relevant to professional practice.

The DIN-DVS-Taschenbuch 196 “Schweißtechnik 5 – Hart- und Weichlöten” (“Welding Technology 5 – Brazing and Soft Soldering”) is divided into three subject areas:

  • Terms, fundamentals, markings
  • Brazing, high temperatures
  • Soft soldering

The book is nearly 900 pages long and features an extensive index to make it easier to find topics by subject.

A comprehensive collection of standards with numerous updates

The Deutsche Verband für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e.V (German Association for Welding and Related Processes) (DVS) publishes its DVS Merkblätter, which provide extremely valuable practical guidance for welding practice, and which offer experts in soldering the necessary guidance. The DIN standards for this field are also often the result of this collaboration. With this publication, experts therefore have in their hands a collection of documents on brazing and soft soldering which reflects the highest standards in Germany. The Merkblätter and standards contained herein are up to date and include a number of new updates:

  • 1 newly adopted standard
The newly adopted standard DIN EN ISO 17779 on the specification and qualification of brazing processes replaces DIN EN 13134 and includes, amongst other things, new annexes.
  • 11 revised documents
Eleven revised documents demonstrate just how dynamic the standards landscape is for soldering. The revisions include, amongst other things, documents on designations, classifications and reference numbers, on processes and solders, on the assessment of solderability and irregularities in joints, as well as DVS Merkblatt 2615 on impurities in solder baths.

The thoroughly revised standards handbook , which runs to almost 900 pages, illustrates the dynamism of the field and provides comprehensive information on many aspects of soldering.

Newly included standards:

  • DIN EN ISO 17779

Revised standards:

  • DIN EN ISO 3677
  • DIN EN ISO 4063
  • DIN EN ISO 5179
  • DIN EN ISO 9455-6, -17
  • DIN EN ISO 12224-1, -2
  • DIN EN ISO 13585
  • DIN EN ISO 17672
  • DIN EN ISO 18279
  • DVS 2615
