About this product

Textile testing
Colour fastness - Test methods - Standardization

(Please note: This publication is only available in German.)

When we buy textiles, we expect them to hold their colour. The original colour should be preserved for years to come, perhaps even forever. However, fading or potentially harmful discoloration are problems that the textile industry is constantly struggling with, due to a number of influencing factors: UV radiation, detergents, drying processes and heat can affect the colour fastness of textiles. In order to create binding specifications that ensure verifiable and long-term colour fastness, DIN offers a large number of standards, primarily the DIN EN ISO 105 series of standards "Textiles - Tests for colour fastness". This series deals with the various influences on colour fastness and how their effects can be tested.

The 3rd edition of this compendium of standards (in German only) brings together 83 standards from the 94-part series, including 2 documents numbered DIN EN 20105. The areas covered in this book include:

  • General principles of testing
  • Colour fastness to light and weathering
  • Colour fastness after washing and cleaning
  • Colour fastness to dry cleaning
  • Colour fastness to water
  • Colour fastness to atmospheric impurities
  • The measurement of colours and colour differences
  • Colour fastness to bleaching agents
  • Colour fastness to heat treatment
  • Colour fastness to vulcanization
  • Other tests

All textile testing standards in one volume

There are currently a number of changes in the standardization of textile testing, as standards from the DIN EN ISO 105 series are being revised and new ones are in the planning. This 3rd edition of DIN-Taschenbuch 381 contains fifteen revised documents: From the DIN EN ISO 105-B series alone five parts have been revised, restructured and supplemented.

“Textile testing: Colour fastness - Test methods - Standardization” is a comprehensive collection of standards that provides experts in the field with all relevant documents in one volume. The book includes information on:

  • Descriptions of method
  • Reference materials and devices
  • Sampling
  • Procedure
  • Evaluation
  • Test reports

In addition, general information is also provided on the various aspects of testing, such as inspection during testing, criteria for selecting the most suitable method, and testing equipment and moisture testing.
