This document has been prepared by NA 005-09-25 AA "Bemessungs- und Konstruktionsregeln für Bauprodukte aus Glas" ("Design and construction rules for glass building products"). This document applies to vertical glazing and horizontal glazing inclined toward the attack side with a fall protection function, namely serving as a barrier. It applies to the following categories of glazing: - category A: glazing in accordance with DIN 18008-2 and DIN 18008-3, which carries horizontal live loads and corresponds to one of the following groups: - A1: glass element supported linearly on at least three edges or supported by plate holders or a combination of linear and plate holders, which does not correspond to A2 or A3; - A2: glass element clamped only at the bottom edge by means of clamps or plate holders; - A3: glass element supported either linearly or by means of countersunk head holders or edge clamp holders or combinations of the aforementioned support types, including plate holders, on at least two opposite edges; - Category B: glazing in accordance with DIN 18008-2 and DIN 18008-3 that indirectly transfers horizontal live loads. The individual panes are connected by a continuous handrail at the required height. The handrail can be attached to the upper edge of the pane or by means of plate holders or countersunk head holders in accordance with DIN 18008-3; - Category C: glazing in accordance with DIN 18008-2 and DIN 18008-3 that does not transfer horizontal live loads at the required height. The glazing is only a filling element; the handrail is connected to the adjacent building construction (for example, steel posts, concrete wall). The glazing shall correspond to one of the following groups: - C1: paling; - C2: glazing below a load-bearing crossbar arranged at the required height; - C3: glazing with a load-bearing rail placed at the required height.
