This standard applies to soil classification for earthworks and foundations, based on the principles for soil classifications according to DIN EN ISO 14688-2. It is not applicable for rock and for soil with stones and blocks with more than 40 % by mass. This document contains DIN 18196:2006-06 which has been modified by Amendment A1. The Committee responsible for this standard is NA 005-05-02 AA "Benennung, Beschreibung und Klassifizierung von Boden und Fels (SpA zu ISO/TC 182/SC 1/WG 1 und CEN/TC 341)" ("Identification and classification of soil and rock (Mirror Committee of ISO/TC 182/SC 1/WG 1 and CEN/TC 341)") at DIN.
