The standard specifies the essential terms for the geodetic spatial reference required as a basis for surveying and geoinformation applications and for geo data infrastructures. This standard differs from DIN 18709-1:1995-10 as follows: a) During the revision of DIN 18709-1 all terms for the geodetic spatial reference were transferred to a new part of this series of standards (DIN 18709-6). b) The terms for the geodetic spatial reference were adapted to the state of the art. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 005-03-01 AA "Geodäsie" ("Geodesy") at DIN.
