Overview

This document specifies requirements for digital elevation models of regional, supraregional, national, and international scope. This document does not consider techniques based on terrestrial measurement methods, such as the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). For the purposes of this document, these methods are used for georeferencing, providing control data, and determining quality. This document applies to the derivation of digital elevation models produced on the basis of aircraft- or space-based acquisition methods. The data acquisition method for digital elevation models depends on the target application and thus on the application-specific accuracy requirements and point density. According to the current state of the art, aerial and satellite-based photogrammetry, airborne laser scanning, and interferometric radar (InSAR) are suitable methods for obtaining raw data for the derivation of digital elevation models. Requirements for sensors are not covered by this document. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 005-03-02 AA "Photogrammetrie und Fernerkundung" ("Photogrammetry and remote sensing") at DIN Standards Committee Building and Civil Engineering (NABau), Technical Section 03 "Geodesy, Geoinformation".
