Overview

This document provides cross-disciplinary and cross-functional principles for a wide range of tasks in the analysis of solids. The results obtained from the analysis of solids depend on a variety of factors. The reliability of these results depends on whether the data obtained for the individual analytical objectives represent the population of the solids to be sampled as accurately and representatively as possible. The approach to data collection and analysis required by each specific problem requires comprehensive expertise. Individual standards that are limited to specific spheres of application alone cannot achieve this. This document provides fundamental, statistically sound guidance for a wide range of areas of application which, on the one hand, helps ensure the representative nature of the sample throughout the sampling process and, on the other hand, enables quality control of this process. An important aim is to raise awareness of the issues, so that statistically justified uncertainties are adequately taken into account both in the preparation of results and in their interpretation. This document has been prepared by NA 119-01-02-01-02 "PPM" ("PPM") at NA 119-01-02-01 UA "Probenahme" ("Sampling") at DIN Standards Committee Water Practice (NAW).
