Overview

The standard applies to the specification of the dimensions of the wheel profiles for locomotives and cars in underground mining operations to be coordinated with the dimensions of the switches, tracks and track connections in order to ensure smooth and low-wear operation. The aim is to prevent uneconomical modes of operation which reduce the conveying capacity while at the same time relieving the track, which is exposed to great stress in underground mine railway operations. The standard has been prepared by NA 008-05-01 "Grubenbahnen" ("Mine railways") of the Mining Standards Committee (FABERG) at DIN.
