This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 178-04-01 AA "Thermische Energiespeicher für gewerbliche beziehungsweise industrielle Anwendungen" ("Thermal energy storage systems for commercial and industrial applications") at DIN Standards Committee for Process and Plant Technology (NAPA). The aim of this standard is to describe the basis for calculating renewable energy, which originates from sources not located near buildings and which can be supplied to buildings for use, toward the required share of renewable energy needed in order to meet the annual energy use in accordance with the German Building Energy Act [GEG]. Additional aspects that are taken into consideration include the grid support resulting from the consumption of surplus electricity on the one hand, and the reduction of a building's energy requirement on the other, particularly during periods of high load. This document aims to utilize previously unused energy during consultation, planning, and implementation for building services systems through targeted use of thermal storage. This document is applicable for determining the input parameters specified in DIN V 18599 (all parts) for calculating energy demand using thermal energy storage systems for the grid-supporting use of surplus, renewable electrical energy that is not generated close to the building and is used to supply heating and cooling to buildings. This document is applicable to thermal energy storage systems as defined in VDI 4657 Sheet 2. This document is not applicable to sorptive or thermochemical energy storage systems.
