The functional properties of nitro-carburized workpieces, especially under wear and corrosion stress, are determined by the composition, structure, porosity and overall thickness of the compound layer. The thickness and porosity of the compound layer are usually used to assess the quality. This document specifies a method for determining the thickness of the compound layer and its porous content of nitrided and nitro-carburized workpieces made of steel, cast iron and sintered steels using light microscopy.
