This standard specifies a method for the determination of selected easily volatile organic compounds in water. This includes, for example, highly volatile halogenated hydrocarbons (HVHH) and petrol ingredients (BTXE, TAME, MTBE and ETBE). The method is applicable for the determination of highly volatile organic compounds (dichloromethane; trichloromethane (chloroform); 1,1,1-trichloroethane; tetrachloromethane (carbon tetrachloride); trichloroethene; 1,1,2-trichloroethane; tetrachloroethene; 1,1-dichloroethane; 1,1-dichloroethene; 1,2-dichloroethane; 1,2-dichloropropane; 2,3-dichloropropene; hexachloroethane; 1,1,2-trichlorotrifluoroethane; chloroprene, (2-chloro-1,3 butadiene); hexachlorobutadiene; 1,2-dibromoethane; 1,2-dichlorobenzene; 1,3-dichlorobenzene; 1,4-dichlorobenzene; 1,2,3-trichlorobenzene; 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene; 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene; vinyl chloride; allyl chloride; cis-1,2-dichloroethene; trans-1,2-dichloroethene; cis-1,3-dichloropropene; trans-1,3-dichloropropene; benzene; toluene; ethyl benzene; o-xylene; m-xylene; p-xylene; vinyl benzene (styrene); chlorobenzene; 2-chlorotoluene; 3-chlorotoluene; 4-chlorotoluene; isopropylbenzene (Cumene); n-propylbenzene; methyl-tert-butylether (MTBE); ethyl-tert-butylether (ETBE); 1,1,1,2-tetrachloroethane; 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene; 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene; bromodichloromethane; tribromomethane; dibromochloromethane; naphthalene; dichlorodiisopropylether; biphenyl; 1,1-dimethylpropyl-methylether, tert-amylmethylether (TAME)) in in drinking, ground and surface water in mass concentrations exceeding 0,1 µg/l. The lower range of application depends on the individual compound, the blank value and the matrix.
