Overview

This document has been prepared Working Committee NA 062-06-63 AA "Gebrauchtöluntersuchung" ("Analysis of used oils") of Technical Section "Standardization of Petroleum, Fuels, Lubricants and Related Products (FAM)" at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP). This document specifies the determination of the oxidation and nitration of used motor oils by evaluating the absorbance spectra of the IR measurement according to DIN 51451. This method is a relative evaluation for which the presence of the corresponding fresh oil as a reference value is required. The values obtained are a measure of the ageing of the oil. This document is applicable to used petrol and diesel motor oils. This document is applicable only to a limited degree to the evaluation of the oxidation of oils in other areas of application (for example, gear or industrial oils).
