The standard specifies a method for determining the characteristic strength values of coke from which conclusions can be drawn about mechanical grain breakdown and abrasion. In this process the coke sample to be tested is sieved through a set of sieves with test sieves of specified hole diameters. The sieve residue is weighed and then mechanically stressed ("tumbled") in a rotating drum without the undersize. The results are given as micad or Irsid characteristics. The content of the standard is largely consistent with ISO 556 "Coke (greater than 20 mm in size) - Determination of mechanical strength". This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 008-12-02 AA "Prüfung fester Brennstoffe" ("Testing Solid Fuels") at DIN Standards Committee Mining (FABERG).
This document replaces DIN 51717:1994-07 .
