Overview

This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-06-52 AA "Anforderungen an Schmierfette" ("Requirements for greases") at the Standardization Committee for Petroleum, Fuels, Lubricants and Related Products (FAM) of DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP). This document applies for lubricating greases G of NLGI classes 000 to 2 according to DIN 51818:1981-12 for lubrication of elements of power transmission engineering, in particular of closed gears. This is predominantly immersion lubrication, whereby the bearings and couplings are often lubricated. When selecting lubricating greases G the type of gear, shape of gear and the size of gear as well as operating and environmental conditions shall be taken into account. The assessment of the suitability of lubricating greases GP for lubrication of highly stressed gears is difficult. The fulfilment of the load tests required in Table 2 according to DIN 51350-4 and DIN ISO 14635-3 does not inevitably ensure suitability of the lubricating grease for high stresses; it shall be regarded as a minimum requirement. When using lubricating greases G with solid lubricants the tribometric and physical behaviour with respect to materials of the friction partners shall be observed.
