This document has been prepared by Subcommittee NA 062-06-61-03 UA "Tribologische Prüfung von Schmierstoffen" ("Tribological testing of lubricants") of Working Committee NA 062-06-61 AA "Prüfung von Schmierölen, sonstigen Ölen und Paraffinen" ("Testing of lubricating oils, other oils and paraffin") of the Fachausschuss Mineralöl- und Brennstoffnormung (FAM) (Standardization Committee for petroleum, fuels, lubricants and related products (FAM)) of the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP). This standard specifies a method for testing lubricants with active ingredients P in accordance with DIN 51502, also called EP lubricants internationally, during translatory oscillating relative movements. This is achieved by comparable investigations of the influence of lubricants on the amounts of wear and coefficients of friction of the tribosystem cylindrical roller-disk in the translatory oscillation apparatus (called oscillation apparatus in the following). The evaluation of the transferability of test results to practical application or with test methods with comparable pressures shall take place separately.
