The standard series DIN 55660 specifies test methods for measuring the contact angle for determining the surface free energy of a solid surface, including the polar and dispersive fraction, for determining the surface tension of fluids, including the polar and dispersive fraction, and for checking the measurement assembly with reference materials using optical methods. It can be used for characterization of substrates, coatings and coating materials. This part of the standard series specifies the terminology and explains the general principles. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 002-00-07-15 AK "Kontaktwinkel/Benetzbarkeit" ("Contact angle/Wettability") at DIN.
