This document applies to walkable technical ceilings in public gathering places as well as in venues and production facilities used for stage performances. Examples of such facilities include, for example, theaters, multipurpose and trade exhibition halls, film, television, and radio studios, and performance and stage areas in the following types of buildings: concert halls, schools, exhibition spaces, bars, discotheques, open-air stages, and venues for shows, events, cabarets, and variety shows. Technical ceilings within the meaning of this document are work surfaces for technical personnel in order to operate and maintain stage and lighting equipment as well as other entertainment technology systems which may extend across multiple levels depending on the structural design. They may also fulfill functional requirements for mechanical equipment. The operation and handling of mechanical and lighting equipment within the area of technical ceilings give rise to specific hazards that are addressed in this document. Technical ceilings include, for example, flies, grid ceilings, trapdoor ceilings, tensioned wire rope ceilings, and ribbed ceilings. They are typically arranged both above areas intended for the presence of people or spectators and above areas for scenic presentations and their adjacent areas. This document may also be applied to the design and dimensioning of working galleries, connecting walkways, and access walkways. This document does not apply to safety or fall arrest nets in accordance with DIN EN 1263-1. This document contains terms and definitions relating to technical ceilings that have been prepared, among other things, based on the terms and definitions in DIN 15560-45:1992-12.
