This document applies to steam sterilizers for the sterilization of liquids, porous goods, and devices, as well as for the sterilization or thermal disinfection of waste and reusable goods in medical and biological laboratories, including specifically pathogen-free (SPF) areas (hereinafter referred to as laboratory sterilizers). This document specifies equipment requirements, structural requirements, and requirements for operating materials. This document does not apply to steam sterilizers for the sterilization of medical and pharmaceutical items to be sterilized in accordance with DIN EN 285, DIN EN 13060, and DIN 58950-2. This document does not apply to steam disinfection devices in the medical field in accordance with DIN 58949-2.
