Overview

This document applies to motor vehicles in homologation classes M and N which, due to their design and equipment, are suitable for transporting the emergency physician, medical assistant/driver, and one additional person, as well as the medical and technical equipment required to restore and maintain the vital functions of emergency patients. In the rendezvous system, type B and C ambulances in accordance with DIN EN 1789:2024-07 and emergency car for emergency physicians (EMV) in accordance with DIN 75079 are intended for the care of emergency patients. EMVs and road ambulances then form an organizational and tactical unit and work together to care for patients using the personnel and equipment of both vehicle types. EMVs are modified by the conversion manufacturer and upgraded for their intended use. The operator supplements the equipment in accordance with this standard and local requirements. Medical and technical advances influence the equipment and operation of the EMV during its life cycle. Even before procurement, the operator has special obligations when selecting suitable vehicles and modifications, as well as regarding regulations on use and equipment, in order to ensure operational readiness throughout the entire service life. At the time of preparation of the standard vehicles with alternative drive systems are only in use in isolated cases as EMVs. Nevertheless, the standards committee attempts to describe requirements for vehicles in a "technology-neutral" manner and to provide information on the operation of vehicles with alternative drive systems. Currently, some requirements can only be met with vehicles with combustion engines. The use of vehicles with alternative drive systems requires an assessment by the user of the standard on a case-by-case basis. This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 176-07-01 AA "Krankenkraftwagen und deren medizinische und technische Ausstattung" ("Ambulances and its medical and technical equipment") at DIN Standards Committee Health Technologies (NAGesuTech).
