This standard applies to tested, fine toleranced round steel link chains, grade 3, pitch t = 3,5×d. It specifies their dimensions and mechanical properties (see Annex A). Chains according to this standard are predominantly used as pulling means in chain conveyors, in accordance with the terminology specified in DIN 15201-1. In connection with cranes or lifting equipment, these chains shall not be used as load carrying attachments, slings or load carrying means according to the definitions of DIN 15003. This standard deals especially with aspects of terminology, quality and safety. It has been prepared in close collaboration of the responsible Standardization Committee Metal and Surface Treatment of the Deutsche gesetzliche Unfallversicherung (DGUV) (German Statutory Accident Insurance), subject: handling of ropes, chains and slings, chairmanship: Berufsgenossenschaft Metall Nord-Süd (professional and trade association North-South). It contains safety specifications by indicating ratios between operating stresses, stresses occurring during manufacturing inspection and breaking stress and furthermore, by testing all chains after manufacturing. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee 2 "Round steel link chains for general purposes" of the Round Steel Link Chains Standards Committee (NRK) of DIN, the German Institute for Standardization e. V.
This document replaces DIN 764-1:1992-09 .
