This document applies to weather-tight and non-watertight, freestanding small ship hatchways with rectangular coamings in accordance with DIN 83404-1 and DIN 83404-2. This document specifies the requirements specific to the material and design characteristics for hatchways made of fibre reinforced material. This document does not apply to emergency escape hatchways; DIN 83414-1 through DIN 83414-3 apply to these, nor does it apply to access to tanks and tank farms; in such cases DIN 83402-1 through DIN 83402-3 apply to manholes. This document has been prepared by DIN Standards Committee Shipbuilding and Marine Technology (NSMT), Working Committee NA 132-01-02 AA "Türen und Luken" ("Doors on ships and side scuttles").
