This standard has been prepared by the Standards Committee Technical Fundamentals, Working Committee NA 152-06-10 AA "Technische Produktdokumentation" ("Technical Product Documentation") at DIN. This standard classifies the manufacturing process "severing" in the system of manufacturing processes and subdivided into individual processes. The individual processes are defined and explained with examples. Furthermore, other basic terms in relation with cutting tools are explained. The incorrect allocation of figures and captions in Table 1 (Figures 6, 7, 8, 9) have been corrected and the standard has been editorially revised.
