DIN 89270:2016-03

Installation switches according to DIN 89270 with round brass housing are used for electrical installation in shipbuilding, preferably in the outside area and in the engine room. They belong to the so-called "HNA installation material", the standardization of which was started by the "Commercial Ship Standards Committee" in the 1920s. The installation switches are not only used on civilian ocean and inland waterway vessels, but also by the German Navy. There is an informative annex describing special features for their use on naval vessels. Installation switches according to DIN 89270 can still be found in the catalogues of German manufacturers, although "more modern" successor models have long been established on the market. For this reason and because the "old" DIN 89270 from 1997 contained several invalid reference standards as well as partly obsolete requirements, tests and material designations, the present standard has been prepared by NA 132-03-52 AA "Installationsmaterial" ("Installation material") at DIN.
