Overview

This document establishes the necessary requirements for the daily use of a combination of established and, in some cases, new technologies in the operating room. It serves as the foundation for greater safety in the areas of assessment, consultation, planning, and construction of multifunctional operating rooms. It supports the safe and efficient operation of multifunctional operating rooms and the training of the professional groups involved. In addition, this document defines standard processes, roles, and responsibilities to minimize the likelihood of hazardous situations occurring before, during, and after surgery and to significantly increase safety in the operating room. Occupational safety is paramount for employee safety and health. This document does not establish requirements for medical devices themselves. It addresses the overall system, interactions, processes/workflows, and qualifications. This document has been prepared by Working Group NA 176-01-08 AA "Multifunktionaler medizinischer Operations-/Interventionssaal" ("Multifunctional medical high-tech working environment surgical theatre/interventional suite") at DIN Standards Committee Health Technologies (NAGesuTech).
