This Technical Report provides recommendations reversible d.c. substations. These recommendations apply to systems and equipment that allow energy to flow to and from the upstream AC power system, including its associated interfaces. The Technical Report describes the functions required for regenerative braking. They are intended for fixed electrical installations with a nominal voltage not exceeding DC 3 000 V, supplying electrical energy to vehicles for public track-guided transport, that is railroad, streetcar and metro vehicles and trolleybuses. The intention is to give an overview of the state of the art, to define the minimum recommendations as far as they are currently available and to give the functional recommendations to be applied for these substations. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 351.2 "Ortsfeste Anlagen" ("Fixed installations") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
