Forging is one of the most widely used steel forming processes. Depending on the forging temperature, forging is divided into: hot forging, semi-hot forging and cold forging. Depending on the type of tool, open or closed, a distinction is made between open die forging and closed die forging. The EN 10222 series of standards, under the main title "Steel forgings for pressure purposes", consists of 5 parts and specifies the general technical delivery conditions for open die steel forgings, ring rolled products and forged bars for pressure purposes. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee 10 "Schmiedestücke" ("Forgings") at DIN Standards Committee Iron and Steel (FES).
